Tom Carter is a choral clinician and author specializing in expressive singing. He has worked with choirs and directors across the country, and is looking forward to sharing his approach at MACCC. In his clinic, he will offer specific techniques which empower singers to engage passionately with the text and music. Tom's book, Choral CHARISMA: Singing with Expression, goes into greater detail about this approach, as well as discussing how to create an atmosphere of safety and trust -- so important if we want singers to wholeheartedly explore the depths of Humanity within the music.

Ironically perhaps, Tom is not a choir director. Though he did begin his performing arts involvement as a choral singer, his career path led him to became an actor, stage director, and Drama teacher ... and he brings that combined outlook to his work. In fact, it was his Masters degree in Music Theatre from San ! Jose State University that precipitated his first gig as a clinician in 1989. He had sung with the Choraliers in 1988, and the following year Dr. A asked him to come in and work with the group on stage presence. He has worked with choirs ever since, and will be presenting ACDA interest sessions this coming year in Minnesota, Oklahoma, California, Washington, and at the National Convention in Oklahoma City.
